Artist Statement

I paint to explore the evocative qualities of colour. Attempting to feel through colour I am creating a dialogue between chance and intent. I think a lot about the ongoing co-existence of opposites. Through careful planning of composition, technique, tools and colour pallet, an orchestrated yet serendipitous interaction surfaces. The connection I make with paint on canvas happens between colour relationships and the character of each mark as they emerge. I am an artist that finds absolute exhilaration in mark making. I work in a series, each piece recording a narrative of ongoing discovery. I paint and repaint to tell a different story. If I knew how I wanted the painting to turn out there would be no fun in discovering it. I work to meet the art that is being uncovered.
